NAIDOC Day
Sunday, August 18, 2019
On Friday 14 June students, staff, families and guest came together to celebrate NAIDOC Day. It was an enjoyable day that started off with a passionate Welcome to Country, by Githabul Elders Uncle Robert and Aunty Gloria Williams, along with their daughter Jennifer. Uncle Roger Knox explained what NAIDOC day is and how wonderful it was to see so many people come together to help celebrate the day.

After the flags were raised, everyone moved to the auditorium for a short concert performed by Uncle Roger and his school band, comprising of Bernadine and Matthew Bradshaw, Braidan Flanagan on drums and Sophie Collins on bass. The highlight of the day was the Gomeroi Dancers, a group of young men from Tamworth. Bareki, Miami, Jeremiah and Khylan displayed so much energy, passion and enthusiasm for their dance and culture that almost every child and staff member were up dancing with them by the end of the day. The Gomeroi Dancers, who also happen to be Uncle Roger’s Grandsons and Great Grandson, were in high demand at morning tea and lunch by both primary and secondary students who wanted them to play various games and activities. Both primary and secondary students participated with in dance workshops ran by the group with high levels of excitement and energy.
All students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the day.
