Prep Outdoor Education

On a Tuesday afternoon in mid-May, Mr Ray Licence took the Prep students for some nature study activities, including a nature walk around the school ground and an experiment to test what foods a meat ant colony prefer. The meat ants do not like any objects that they can remove, left lying on top of their colony, so by Wednesday morning, all the food samples had been removed!

To finish the afternoon activities, Mr Licence gave the students a challenge, to find the secret path through a 4 x 4 grid of tiles. They had to try, one student at a time, to find which tile was part of the path. If their choice was wrong, they sat down and the next student had to follow the known path until they came to the last known tile, then proceed with the task of establishing the way to the other side of the grid.

The students enjoyed the afternoon's activities.
