Much Ado About Shakespeare

Monday, October 10, 2016

The SOTE senior drama students have been putting in extra hours lately learning lines and rehearsing the upcoming production of Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’.

“The students have put a lot into their preparation” said senior drama teacher, Mr Colin Alley.  “Even giving up some of their September holidays to come together and rehearse,” he added.

The main characters are really taking shape with Ceilidh Bishop in the role of Beatrice who is tricked into believing her verbal sparring partner, Benedick, played by Kieran Power, is in love with her, and he likewise that she is in love with him.

Finnegan Stubbings is distinguished in his role as the elder statesman, Leonato, who is the governor of Messina and the father of the beautiful Hero, played by Ellie Douglas.  Hero wins the affections of Claudio, (Lachlan Doherty) comrade of Benedick and Don Pedro (Steven Fern), the mastermind of Benedick and Beatrice’s romance.

All nearly comes unstuck at the hand of the jealous Don Jon (Cameron Darton) but fortunately love prevails, though there are many twists and turns along the way.

“The students have already completed their assessment so they are doing this out of their love for drama and the wish to perform for the school and parents.  It is part of a long tradition at The School of Total Education and underscores the importance we place on the performing arts,” concluded Mr Alley.

So come and support our young thespians, farewelling this year’s Year 12s, welcoming our Year 11s and heralding a new team of junior performers from Year 10 in supporting roles in what is sure to be an entertaining and engaging production.
