Teacher Development - Making and Breaking Bread

Saturday, November 05, 2016

At the Teacher Development meeting recently, our teachers enjoyed each others’ company while making bread together. This provided an opportunity for a relaxing chat and connecting with each other in a different way. Matthew and Bernadine Bradshaw, the teachers who prepared the activity, expressed it as follows:

One of the first lessons we try to teach young children is to share. As adults we share not only material things but also time, our stories, our joys and sorrows. If there is something you are really happy about, it's always nice to share that with someone else. Similarly if you are going through a tough situation, talking about it with a trusted friend can help. Trust is a key factor in sharing.

Another way of sharing is to share our skills and passions with others. With the baking, we shared using our hands and shaping bread together. And yet we seemed to share more than this. We were able to enjoy each other’s company in a simple practical activity.
